An axe is a tool that has been used for Millenia to shape & cut wood...as a weapon and also for ceremonial purposes. Jake at Hedge Ironworks is now offering a workshop where you can forge your own!! Learn under close guidance how to hand forge a single piece 1.5lb bearded hatchet in one day! Jake will guide you through the process of heating, punching using the 12ton hydraulic press, forging using the power hammer, hand hammer & fly press...essentially using all the toys in the forge! There's a lot of gripping involved, holding tooling accurately & hammer swinging. It's then onto grinding work, heat treatment & hafting! Each student will take home their own hand forged axe, hafted on a beautiful Swedish made Hickory handle. The axe will be ready to work after a busy and fun day in the forge! Three person booking - £195 per person Two person booking - £225 per person Individual booking - £325 What's Included!? - All the materials to forge your own axe including the En9 carbon steel & Swedish made hickory handle. All necessary PPE. Tea, coffee & water provided throughout the day. Lunch is NOT included so please bring your own.
